How to Add Personality to Your Home Without Going Overboard

Your home is a reflection of your personality. It's the place where you can be yourself, without worrying about what other people think. You can express yourself through your decor, and create a space that is uniquely yours. However, it's important to do this in a way that doesn't go overboard. Here are some tips on how to add personality to your home without going overboard!

First, as a family, go through magazines or Pinterest together and create a Style Board that incorporates all your family's tastes and preferences. See if there are any common denominators or get creative in how to weave something for everyone into the design scheme. After all, if your home is for your family, it's important that every member feels there is a space for them.

Here are just a few simple areas to focus on as you are infusing some personality into your home:

Treasured Personal Items

Another great way to add personality to your home is to incorporate treasured personal items. This could be anything from family photos to heirlooms. These items will make your home feel more like yours, and they'll help you create a space that is truly unique. Pick some nostalgic pieces from you and your spouses' childhood days, or a trip you went on, a family vacation, etc. so that not only does it become art to your house, but brings back warm memories just by looking at them.

Furniture

Choose furniture that reflects your style. The furniture in your home should reflect your personal style. This doesn't mean that you have to buy the most expensive or trendy pieces. Instead, focus on finding pieces that you love, and that make you feel comfortable. Your home should be a reflection of who you are, so choose furniture that represents that. Find comfortable throw pillows that compliment the furniture and you are good to go!

Extras

Once you've got color on the walls, added those treasured personal items, and have those choice furniture pieces, then you can take a step back and add some fillers, if need be. My personal favorite is plants and fresh flowers for pops of color and signs of life. If you have a lot of color going on, try more muted plants and flower colors. If you have mostly white, beige or neutral colors, try adding a few pops of colors with your plants and flowers. Experiment, try different plants and flowers, a variation of colors and pots or vases. I love old wine bottles that are also like works of art to display fresh flowers. For plants, I love the simple beauty of macrame holders. If you have kids, you can make a fun family project by painting terra cotta pots together. Whatever you choose, have fun with it!

For the walls, try to incorporate your family's hobbies or passions. For instance, if your husband is a photography enthusiast like mine, you can get some of his favorite prints made on canvas, frame them, then display them on the wall. For kids, it can be their artwork or a candid shot of them playing with friends. You can hang musical instruments, art supplies, and so on. Just have fun!

These are just a few ways to add personality to your home without going overboard. By following these tips, you can create a space that is uniquely yours, and that reflects your personal style. So go out and express yourself! Your home is waiting.

Adding personality to your home doesn't have to be difficult. In fact, it can be a lot of fun! By using simple techniques like color, personal items, and furniture, you can create a space that is uniquely yours. Just make sure not to go overboard - remember, you want your home to feel like an extension of yourself, not a cluttered mess. So was this helpful? Let me know in the comments below!
