How to Get Out of a Bad Mood in Five Minutes or Less
Bad moods are the worst, right? They can ruin your day (as well as everyone’s around you) and make everything seem a lot harder than it is. But did you know that there is a way to get out of a bad mood in just five minutes or less? It's true! In this blog post, we will discuss some simple quick tips that will help you feel better in no time. So if you're feeling down, read on for some helpful advice.
Take a deep breath and relax your muscles.
When you're feeling stressed or anxious, your body tends to tense up. This can make your mood even worse. So, the first step to getting out of a bad mood is to take a deep breath and relax your muscles. Try to focus on your breathing and let go of any tension you may be holding in your body. You may even want to close your eyes and picture yourself in a peaceful place.
After you've taken a few deep breaths, you should start to feel more relaxed. And once your body is relaxed, your mind will follow suit.
If you're still feeling stressed, there are a few other things you can do to relax your body. You could try:
- Taking a hot bath or shower allowing the water to relax your physical body as you practice deep breathing
or
- Putting on some relaxing music and doing some gentle stretching
Smile - even if you don't feel like it, it will help to change your mood.
It may sound silly, but smiling can actually help to improve your mood. When you smile, your brain releases chemicals that make you feel happy. So even if you don't feel like it, force yourself to smile. The physical body responds to a smile, even if it is forced. You can also watch a favorite comedic clip. I recommend compiling a playlist of your favorites so you can have it readily available for a quick boost to your mood. Sometimes, even just smiling at another person can be enough, especially if your smile puts a smile on their face so it becomes contagious. There's not much better than helping someone else feel better, which in turn can help you to feel better at a soul level.
Reach out to a friend or family member for support.
If you're feeling down, reach out to someone you trust for support. Sometimes, all you need is a shoulder to cry on or someone to lend a listening ear. Talking to someone who cares about you can help to make your bad mood feel a little bit better. So don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help when you need it.
Exercise or go for a walk outdoors.
Exercise is a great way to boost your mood. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. So if you're feeling down, go for a walk or do some other form of exercise. Even just a few minutes of movement can make a big difference in how you're feeling.
Step away from the situation that's causing you to feel bad.
Sometimes, the best way to improve your mood is to simply step away from the situation that's causing you to feel bad. If you're arguing with a friend or family member, walk away and take some time to calm down. If you're feeling stressed at work, take a break and go for a walk outside. Sometimes, all you need is some time to clear your head before you can see the situation more clearly.
Drink some water, preferably with lemon or cucumber slices added for flavor.
Dehydration can actually make you feel cranky and irritable. Adding lemon or cucumber slices to your water can help to improve the taste and make it more refreshing. And drinking a tall glass of cold water can be a nice pick-me-up on a hot day. Most people are dehydrated. Dehydration can effect the mood as it shrinks the tissues and organs. Our bodies need water to work effectively, so hydration is always a priority for overall health and especially with mood balancing.
Do something nice for someone else.
One of the best ways to improve your mood is to do something nice for someone else. When you make someone else's day, it can actually make your day better too. So next time you're feeling down, try doing something nice for someone else. It could be as simple as holding the door open for someone or buying them a cup of coffee. Whatever it is, spreading some kindness can go a long way in making you feel better.
Take a 5-minute Power Rest
Sometimes just the mere act of allowing our body and mind to rest can be the reset we need. You know how toddlers can have a meltdown, but are like little angels after a short nap? Us adults are often just grown babies who still need those very basic things. Likely, if you are a part of mainstream society, you are used to being overworked, overstressed, and fatigued. Try a rest and see if it refreshes you.
Get Nourished
The average person is already highly malnourished with mineral and nutritive deficiencies. These deficiencies alone can drastically affect our moods. Sometimes, we can just get Hangry too. Grab a quick nourishing meal or snack like energy bites, a piece of fruit, a handful of mixed nuts or seeds, a boiled egg, a leafy greens salad, etc. and notice how it affects you. When you become mindful of your body, what it needs and what you do or don't do that affects it, you can better adjust accordingly and provide it more stable nourishment for more balance and less unfavorable moods.
Aromatherapy
The tiny molecules in pure essential oils can bypass the blood-brain barrier and go directly to the limbic system of the brain, which is the seat of hormones. Just by inhaling the essential oils, your body can literally start shifting in as early as 30 seconds. I combine Aromatherapy in a technique called an Aroma Reset that can deepen the shifts within minutes. It is safe (when using the right essential oils), gentle, and effective for all members of the household.
So there you have it - five quick and easy ways to improve your mood. next time you're feeling down, try one of these tips and see how it goes. I'm sure you'll be feeling better in no time.
Until next time,
