I’ll be honest, I never thought much about Marjoram until I took a C.A.R.E. Intensive and learned about its therapeutic properties as an essential oil. In the chemistry class, I learned about a few of its chemical constituents that bumped it up to my top choice of essential oil to have one hand, as well as grow in my herb garden.

Here’s why; Marjoram contains a combination of constituents called Phenols, Monoterpenes, and Sesquiterpenes, or PMS for short. That perfect combination in its ratios work in the body at a cellular level to collectively cleanse cell receptor sites, delete bad programming (messages) and rewrite it to restore into God’s original design for our bodies. This is HUGE!!!

Now, as much as I’d love to, I’m not going to go into full-on geek-mode here and talk more about the science part of this. I will keep it short and save that for another time so I don’t bombard you with it all.

What is most important for you to understand, is at the very least, this is something you want to keep on hand, whether in its natural herb form, or concentrated essential oil. Read on to learn more about its properties and how it can help you and your household

Origanum majorana

Botanical Family: Lamiaceae or Labiatate (mint)

Plant Origin: France

Action: Anti-infectious, antibacterial, dilates blood vessels, regulates blood pressure, soothes muscles, promotes intestinal peristalsis, tones the parasympathetic nervous system, and supports respiratory system.

Traditional Uses: Marjoram was known as the “herb of happiness” to the Romans and “joy of the mountains” to the Greeks. It was believed to increase longevity.

Indications: Aches, arthritis, asthma, bronchitis, indigestion, constipation, cramps, insomnia, migraine headaches, neuralgia, rheumatism, and sprains.

Other Uses: Marjoram may be relaxing and calming to the muscles that constrict and sometimes contribute to headaches. It may help anxiety, nervous tension, bruises, burns, sores, cuts, circulatory disorders, respiratory infections, fungal and viral infections, menstrual problems, ringworm, shingles, shock, sores, spams, sunburns, and fluid retention.

As Essential Oils

Extraction Method: Steam distilled from leaves

Application: Diffuse or apply topically. Massage to calm stressed muscles. It is one of the oils included in the Raindrop Technique and is used 2-4 drops undiluted along the spine and spinal Vitaflex points along the feet.

Fragrant Influence: Assists in calming the nerves.
