The Benefits of Jasmine

Jasmine is a luxurious plant filled with fragrant aroma, but it also has some benefits you may not be aware of. Before we dive in, let’s look at an overview. Jasmine is a flower of love and sensuality, and it helps to cultivate a sense of emotional acceptance, relaxation and mood uplifting. In oil form, it helps to enhance self-confidence and is encouraging for optimistic outlooks. Though floral oils are often thought of as “girly”, they are favorable for men and women, being both pleasing and beneficial to either of the sexes.

Jasminum officinale

Botanical Family: Oleaceae (olive)

Origin: India

Action: Beneficial for skin, uplifting, antidepressant, and stimulating.

Traditional Uses: Jasmine has been nicknamed as the “queen of the night” and “moonlight of the grove.”

  • Ideal for dry skin, jasmine absolute is a popular ingredient in skin care recipes.

History of Use: For centuries, women have treasured jasmine for its beautiful, seductive fragrance

Indications: beneficial for dry, greasy, irritated, or sensitive skin. Helps anxiety, stress, and depression.

As Essence oil:

  • Extraction method: absolute extraction from flower. Jasmine is actually an “essence” not an essential oil. The flowers must be picked at night to maximize fragrance.

    • One pound of jasmine oil requires about 1,000 pounds of jasmine or 3.6 million fresh unpacked blossoms.

    • The blossoms must be collected before sunrise, or much of the fragrance will have evaporated.

    • The quality of the blossoms may also be compromised if they are crushed.

    • A single pound of pure jasmine oil may cost between $1200 to $4500.

    • In contrast, synthetic jasmine oils can be obtained for $3.50 per pound, but obviously do not possess the same therapeutic qualities as pure jasmine oil.

    • Properties and actions are in reference to only pure jasmine oil, not synthetic.

  • Other known uses: emotionally caused eczema, frigidity, labor pains, laryngitis, lethargy, menstural pain and problems, and stress. Ideal for skin care; dry, greasy, irritated, and sensitive.

Fragrant Influence: Known as the ‘King of Essences’, jasmine oil is a middle note with a long history in perfumery.

  • The oil will darken with age.

  • Its warm and intoxicating floral aroma blends well with coriander, orange, rose, or sandalwood.

  • Uplifting and stimulating in times of hopelessness and nervous exhaustion.

  • Helps to reduce anxiety, apathy, depression, dilemmas that deal with relationships, indifference, and listlessness.

  • When worn as a cologne, increases excitability.

Since the yield of jasmine flowers is very low, increasing the cost of the absolute, purchasing in a pre-diluted roller or dropper bottle is an economical and sustainable way to enjoy this beautiful oil. Due its priciness, this is why I created my very own products utilizing pure Jasmine essence , making it cost-effective and still highly pleasing and powerful - so everyone can experience the amazing benefits of Jasmine. You can get your own Jasmine products in the Shop, personally made with love by me.

Until next time,
